GOLDEN KEY: Pep Guardiola wants to recruit Joshua Kimmich to upgrade the squad but Man City don’t want to spend more than €60m

Reports suggest that Man City are interested in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. His current contract at Allianz Arena will expire in 2025, and the Green Man plans to ask to buy the German player this summer.

With a player who only has 12 months left on his contract, the English team hopes to not have to spend more than 60 million euros on this deal. Man City considers Joshua Kimmich a top priority in this year’s summer transfer plan, in order to increase competition in the squad.

Kimmich has long left open the possibility of leaving Bayern Munich. The poor results in recent times have made him even more determined to find a new adventure. The Gray Tigers are currently facing the possibility of going empty-handed after a series of disappointing results under Thomas Tuchel. If they do not have a title at the end of the season, the possibility of Kimmich leaving is very high.

Pep Guardiola has a good relationship with Kimmich so he wants to bring the German international to Man City, giving him a factor to diversify his playing style. Liverpool is also said to have Bayern’s star in its sights, so the Green Man wants to quickly reach a personal agreement with this midfielder.

I love this boy. He's got absolutely everything'

In January, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano responded to transfer rumors related to Kimmich, revealing: “There have been rumors about Man City as Joshua Kimmich finishes the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich, but what I can say is that he will 100% stay at Bayern in January.”

Following their top of the table clash with Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, which saw them fall five points behind Xabi Alonso’s side, they lost to Bochum over the weekend which extended the gap to eight points. Bayern’s 12-year stronghold on the division looks like it could be over as Alonso’s side went a record 32 games unbeaten.

To make matters worse, their midweek exploits in Rome saw them lose 1-0 to a struggling Lazio side in the Champions League leaving them needing to overturn a one-goal deficit in the second leg which takes place in two weeks time. With all of that ensuing, tensions are high at the club with talks of a potential managerial change.

According to German outlet SportBILD, ‘the relationship of trust between Kimmich and coach Thomas Tuchel is cracked’. The midfielder was hugely frustrated after a disappointing performance and the fact he was brought off after 62 minutes. It’s also said he was seen arguing ‘violently’ with assistant coach Zsolt Löw.

The reports also claim that Kimmich was unhappy with Tuchel and the club for not bringing in another holding midfielder. Instead, he has been operating in a deeper position and struggling to reproduce his best work and now he is at a breaking point with the manager and the club is seeking a move away. Valued at €75m, he would certainly be a huge coup for any top side needing a top midfielder.

With his current deal expiring in 2025, this summer could prove as the perfect moment to reanalyse his career, as he would have plenty of suitors in England around Europe – including Liverpool and Manchester City who have both been linked.
