A Disappointing Draw as Stalemate Persists: Petrovic and Silva Shine, but Gallagher Disappoints

Chelsea player ratings from Stamford Bridge as the Blues drew 0-0 with Aston Villa despite having a number of brilliant chances to break the deadlock in west LondonChelsea Scores, Stats and Highlights - ESPN

Chelsea will have to play an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Aston Villa after the two teams played out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge. The Blues had some great chances but were not able to beat an in-form Emiliano Martinez.

Villa thought they had taken the lead early on through Douglas Luiz. However, after a VAR check, Luiz was deemed to have used his hand, and the goal was ruled out.Chelsea vs Aston Villa - the stats | News | Official Site | Chelsea Football Club

Chelsea then had some great chances, with a couple falling to Cole Palmer and one to Noni Madueke. Martinez, though, was equal to whatever Chelsea attacked him with.

The game ended in a goalless draw. Below, Bobby Vincent rates each one of the Chelsea players.

Djordje Petrovic: Relatively quiet game for him until just after 70 minutes, when Villa had back-to-back chances. First it was Ollie Watkins, with Petrovic equal to the striker’s shot, and then it was Matty Cash, and the Serbian made a great fingertip stop to deny the right-back.

Axel Disasi played in centre-back in the end, with the initial plan for him to be on the right side. He was not able to go forward as much as he did against Middlesbrough, but he had another solid display. 6.

Thiago Silva: His usual imperious self is at the back. Calm, assured, and fierce when needed to be. Leader. 7.

Benoit Badiashile: Playing at left-back, Badiashile inevitably, being a natural central defender, stayed back most of the time. He, of course, doesn’t give you the attacking talent of Ben Chilwell, but he provided a very solid option on the left. 6.

Alfie Gilchrist: Gilchrist wasn’t meant to be starting, but an injury to Levi Colwill in the warm-up meant the 20-year-old was a late inclusion in the side. Showed brilliant courage in the first half to step into midfield and find Raheem Sterling with a great ball. She came off after 65 minutes to a nice ovation. 6.

Moises Caicedo is as industrious as ever, never out of possession. He would be an absolute nightmare to play against if you were an opposition midfielder. 6.Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) / X

Enzo Fernandez: He made a few brilliant touches but did not manage to get into the game as much as he would have liked to. 6.

Conor Gallagher struggled to get into the game, really. I don’t think he offers Chelsea a lot when playing further forward. I would have liked to have seen Carney Chukwuemeka there from the beginning. 5.Conor Gallagher

Noni Madueke had a huge chance when it was goalless but saw it well saved by Martinez. Once again, he ran the full-back ragged throughout the game, but I can’t help but feel he needs to be deadlier in front of goal to reach the next level. 6.

Raheem Sterling: As he did against Middlesbrough, he proved a constant threat, especially in the first half. Bit quieter in the second period. 6.

Cole Palmer: Like Madueke, he had a glorious chance, but Martinez did brilliantly to deny him. Chelsea would have liked him on the ball a lot more than he was. 6.Chelsea vs Aston Villa LIVE! FA Cup team news, analysis, match commentary | Football News | Sky Sports

Substitutes

Ben Chilwell: I got some more minutes, which is great. He offered more of an attacking threat than Badiashile when he went to left-back.

Armando Broja: I ran around a lot. I didn’t really get a sniff.

Mykhailo Mudryk: See above. You think he would relish playing against such a high line, but he never got the chance to do anything, unfortunately.

Carney Chukwuemeka On for a few minutes. Got booed a fair bit throughout.
