Manchester City were 2-1 down at Newcastle but Kevin De Bruyne inspired them to a brilliant Premier League victoryManchester City's Kevin De Bruyne celebrates scoring to make it 2-2 vs Newcastle United

Manchester City had to work to earn a Premier League point at Newcastle.

Bernardo Silva gave them the lead with a fantastic finish from a Kyle Walker cross in the first half, but the Blues were not only level but behind before too long as Alexander Isak and then Anthony Gordon exposed them at the back.Image

City were grateful to go in at halftime trailing by just one goal, but Kevin De Bruyne needed just four minutes as a second-half substitute to score a pinpoint equaliser.

Here are the player ratings from the game.

Ederson tried to carry on after being clattered into in the opening minutes but was forced into an early substitution. 6

Walker: A decent cross for the assist, but a man who prides himself on 1vs.1 defending was beaten for two goals. Improved in the second half.

Dias: Part of another leaky defense, but on this occasion he was more switched on than most and also contributed to the attack. 7

Ake struggled to contain the left side, with Newcastle pouncing in the space behind Gvardiol. 6

Gvardiol: In what feels like a summary of his season, he played some nice balls forward but wasn’t good enough defensively, and Newcastle exploited that. 5

Rodri made a lovely pass through to De Bruyne for the second goal and did well, although he lost his focus a bit arguing with the ref. 7

Kovacic: He had earned his place on the team and worked hard, even if he wasn’t always able to help the team keep control. 6

Foden: He worked his way into lots of excellent positions, but his touch was unusually poor when he needed it most. 6

Silva: It was a wonderful goal to open the scoring, and he was an attacking threat and a defensive help. A surprise to be substituted. 7

Doku: Terrific vision for the opening goal and dribbles caused Newcastle problems, but City were vulnerable when he lost the ball. 7

Alvarez: Wasted a glorious chance to get City level when 2-1 down as one of too many poor decisions in front of goal. 5
