Chelsea have spent more than £1 billion under Boehly’s stewardship, signing young players on long contracts and thinking about the future of the club. But it is the here and now that really matters to supporters.

Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov offered his verdict on Pochettino’s future in an interview with Football.london this week. He said, “It’s still not working; I see and I read it’s a project, and you need time, but time can be different for different people. If they’re not careful Pochettino and his team, then maybe they continue that losing way, and maybe we see a new manager come in.

“I don’t want that to be the case; I love Pochettino. I hope they give him more time, but today, results are very important, and if they continue to get losses one after the other, I think he’s going to get the sack.

“It’s more than difficult; sometimes we can speak from the outside, but inside the things that are happening, we don’t know what they are. That reputation and name can keep you safe for so long, but at some point if you continue with bad results, it doesn’t matter who you are; you are going to get the sack because the manager is always the first to go.”
