Report: Barcelona Presented With Opportunity to Sign Liverpool Midfield Star in January

With only a few days remaining until the January transfer window opens up, Barcelona are desperately looking for reinforcements, especially in the midfield department.

The club have been rocked by the injury of Gavi, who picked up a serious ACL knock and is likely to miss out the rest of the season. Even Pedri has picked up a fresh knock and is likely to be out until January end.

This leaves Barcelona with very limited options in the middle of the park. Therefore, the club have no choice but to sign a new midfielder in the January transfer window.

Barcelona offered the chance to sign Thiago

As Barcelona search for a new midfielder, the club have already received an offer to sign one of their former stars.

According to Adrian Sanchez, Thiago Alcantara has been offered to Barcelona for the upcoming January transfer window.

Currently at Liverpool, Thiago was a product of the Barça academy, who had a tremendous spell at Bayern Munich under the leadership of Pep Guardiola.

Even after joining Liverpool, Thiago has contributed a lot to English football and has featured in almost 100 competitive appearances for the Reds.

Thiago’s current contract at Anfield, though, expires at the end of the season, thus providing an excellent opportunity for Barcelona to snap him up, either on a free transfer in the summer or on a cut-price deal in January.

Thiago’s injury woes are a concern

Before Barcelona even contemplate making a move for Thiago, the club must keep in mind the midfielder’s injury woes in recent years.

It has already been eight months and counting since Thiago last played for Liverpool. The midfielder is still struggling from a hip injury, which has prevented him from playing even a single minute this season.

Thiago’s injury problems have already become a running joke for Liverpool supporters and it would perhaps be wiser if Barcelona look for other options, in their quest to reinforce the midfield unit.
