Benfica was awarded a corner kick on the right side of the opponent’s goal in the 32nd minute. Angel Di Maria is the one who is responsible for taking the corner kick.

In order to communicate with his colleagues, the Argentine midfielder indicated that he would be making a cross towards the near post. With that, Di Maria proceeded to carry out that plan in its entirety.

When Benfica players were within the penalty area, they attempted to cut in on the ball but were unable to do so. Because of this, the ball was sent directly towards the goal by Di Maria’s cross, which caused the Salzburg goalkeeper to be taken aback and unable to maintain control of the situation any longer.

The first goal scored by Di Maria gave Benfica a boost of confidence in their play. Following that, they went on to win the match by a score of 3-1.

By virtue of this victory, Benfica is able to surpass Salzburg and secure third place in Group D of the 2023/24 Champions League. As a result, they are awarded a spot in the Europa League of the Champions League. The Portuguese representative is placed higher than the other team because of the sub-index, despite the fact that both teams have the same number of points.
