Luis Suarez wanted 17-year-old future Real Madrid signing to join Barcelona: “He is a star”

Speaking to ESPN at the BolaDePrata Awards in Brazil, former Barcelona striker and club legend Luis Suarez has claimed that he would have liked to see teenage sensation Endrick sign for the Catalans instead of Real Madrid.

Endrick, 17, is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents coming through the South American footballing scenes.

The teenage striker was on the radars of a host of top clubs last year, including Barcelona, with manager Xavi Hernandez publicly declaring the Blaugrana’s interest in signing him.

However, it was not to be as Endrick opted to sign for Real Madrid in a deal worth €35 million, plus €25 million in add-ons and another €12 million in taxes.

The 17-year-old won his second Brasileiro title last night with Palmeiras and has seemingly made a huge impression on Luis Suarez.

The Barcelona legend, who is at Gremio currently, stated that Endrick is a star and that he would have liked to see the youngster with the Catalans instead of Real Madrid.

“I would have liked Endrick to have signed for Barça, but he has to decide and enjoy football, and football will enjoy him”, Suarez said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“He is a star, he is still very young, he is taking his first steps. I think what he has achieved this year is incredible. Brazil, Real Madrid, and football have a star for many years to come,” the former Barcelona striker added.

While Endrick might have slipped away, the Blaugrana are getting another gem from Brazil in the form of Vitor Roque.

The 18-year-old striker will be arriving next month after having been signed from Athletico Paranaense during the summer window.
